VLSM Configuration

VLSM

Objectives

  • Cable the network
  • Create VLSM addressing scheme
  • Verify connectivity

Topology

Create VLSM addressing scheme

An easy way to work out wildcards is to subtract 1 from the block size required to support the number of hosts required.

For example;

Required hosts 2 block size 4.
  • 4 - 1 = 3 which creates the wildcard 0.0.0.3

Or subtract the subnet mask from 255.

  • 192.168.0.228-231/30 - 255.255.255.252. 252 - 255 = 3

I used wildcards to setup EIGRP.

Addressing scheme

192.168.0.0-127/27 - 100 hosts network
192.168.0.128-191/26 - 50 hosts network
192.168.0.192-223/27 - 25 hosts network
192.168.0.224-227/30 - WAN link
192.168.0.228-231/30 - WAN link

Verify Connectivity

You can verify everything is working by pinging each network from the PCs.
