Ubuntu Desktop: Linksys AE3000 Dual-Band Wirelss-N Adapter Drivers

I just bought this device to go with the Linksys EA6500 Wi-Fi Router that I’ve ordered. But there are no official Linux drivers for the adapter.

So here are the steps that you have to take to get it working;

Download and extract the following file;

  • https://github.com/ashaffer/rt3573sta - 64 bit drivers (see source for 32 bit)

Navigate to;
  • nano common/rtusb_dev_id.c

Add the following in red to the file;

 #ifdef RT3573
    {USB_DEVICE(0x148F,0x3573)}, /* Ralink 3573 */
    {USB_DEVICE(0x7392,0x7733)}, /* Edimax */
    {USB_DEVICE(0x0B05,0x17AD)}, /*ASUS */

{USB_DEVICE(0x13B1,0x003B)}, /* Cisco LinkSys AE3000 */
#endif /* RT3573 */

  • Save and exit
  • sudo make -j10
  • sudo make install
  • sudo depmod -a
  • sudo modprobe -v rt3573sta

That should do it;

If you followed the guide below and had a problem with your computer freezing when browsing the internet, which I had when I ran through that guide.

You need to either;

  • Unload the driver. The readmesta file says;
    • 7> unload driver
    • $/sbin/ifconfig ra0 down
    • $/sbin/rmmod rt3573sta
or

  • remove the Cisco Linksys line from the rtusb_dev_id.c file.

Then download the files from the above link.
